Healing Soul of America, Inc.

Healing Soul of America (HSoA) Programs/Services

We intend to use art in all of its forms and expressions, management training, community development and civic education as the primary modalities to capture the hearts and minds of the young people we will work with.

The following are our primary programs, projects and services:

Young Entrepreneurs Leadership Program (Y.E.L.P.)© will provide mentoring and leadership centers that offer programs in direct response to the growing number of youths who are either falling through the cracks at school, becoming teenage runaways, homeless or who are already entangled with the juvenile court system.

Each Y.E.L.P youth who successfully completes a three-month program will become part of the ASSOCIATION OF YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS LEADERSHIP PROGRAM -- MEMBERS INTERNATIONAL (AYELPMI).

The main purposes of AYELPMI are 1) to provide a forum for the continuous exchange of life and leadership experiences between American youth and other young people globally; 2) to allow these youths to practice leadership and governance within their own association that will allow them to practice key leadership skills such as goal setting, consensus building and project management; 3) to provide an on opportunity for the youth to be community-oriented; 4) to provide an opportunity for the youth to be professionally responsible.

Annual Leadership Retreat: Every youth who completes the Leadership Training will attend a Leadership Retreat each December.

College/Career Bound- College/Career Bound is a program that will work incoming freshman and sophomore high school youth to ensure that s/he is prepared academically for college and a career. The program will provide mentoring in the following four areas: 1) making sure the youth is taking the necessary steps for college and a career; 2) assisting the youth with successfully passing the exit exam for high school; 3) assisting the youth with preparing for, enrolling and taking the SAT or ACT exams 4) working with the youth to keep him/her focused on one’s career path and 4) helping the youth secure scholarships and financial aid to attend college.  Our motto is “no youth left without a career path”.

Restorative Justice Project - We will carefully research existing models of Restorative Justice across the United States and form a task force comprised of youth, ex offenders, community residents, criminal justice, judicial and local governments to design a program that will first be implemented as a pilot project in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties in CA. We will take referrals from the judicial system as our initial cases to study/evaluate. During this pilot phase we will offer forums, conferences trainings that help create awareness of Restorative Justice. Such programs will also inform the public of the history and context of our current system of crime and punishment. Long term we envision at least half of all criminal cases to be handled nationwide through the restorative justice framework, thereby decreasing overall incidents of crime and the impact of incarceration on the community as a whole.

One America Nationwide Movement The primary focus is to build bridges across race, age, religion, culture, sexual orientation and class. One America will connect young people across the United States creating a greater awareness of and appreciation for our diversity. This movement will generate a deep sense of community and accountability for the earth, our neighborhoods and one another. It will also encourage young people to think about civic leadership and people of all ages to participate in all aspects of community and civic life.

Eventually this tour will be grounded in colleges and a university allowing young people who may not think that college is a possibility to spend a night on a college campus and interact with college students, faculty and staff.

Initially the tour will visit 22 cities in the first year. In each city, we will collaborate with existing groups to co-sponsor musical concerts, festivals, variety shows, plays, seminars, workshops, and town hall meetings and healing conversations. Civic education will be an integral part of the work we do in each city.

Annual Diversity Day Celebrations
– The last weekend in June was our first Diversity Day Celebration. The mayor issued a proclamation which was announced at a press conference. The weekend included a VIP Event, a Concert and a Youth Speak Out Forum. Our long-term goal is to have the last weekend in June across the country to celebrate diversity building bridges generationally and multi-culture.

Annual Conference – Will be a series of events held annual during the week of Sept 11th and will include a Day of Remembrance – Beyond Tolerance. We will invite our members and supporters to join us at our national headquarters in Santa Barbara to showcase our offices and share our programs and services. This Conference will include a major fundraising concert in Los Angeles and an one day conference to reflect on our past years work and to develop strategy and implement changes moving forward.
